Bring your Pool and Deep dive logs into inDepth

Already have dive sessions on your Garmin? Keep them in your inDepth logbook alongside your new sessions. Export a supported FIT file, open it on your phone, and import it. You don't need to pair a watch to import a file.

Updated

Have a .fit file ready? Jump to iPhone sharing, Android opening, or the file picker inside inDepth.

Which logs can I import?

  • Deep: supported Garmin dive FIT files exported from Garmin Connect or Garmin Dive, with dive times and recorded depth profiles. Heart rate and positions come across when the file contains them.
  • Pool: Garmin Pool Apnea FIT files, with recorded reps, pool length, rests, and available heart-rate data.
  • Apnea CWT: FIT files from apnea.me's CWT app are imported as Deep sessions. Other apnea.me disciplines aren't supported by this importer.

Use the original .fit file. An activity link or a screenshot doesn't contain the dive data. CSV, GPX, TCX, PDF, and logs from other dive apps aren't interchangeable with these supported FIT exports. Renaming a file to end in .fit won't convert it.

1. Get the FIT file

From Garmin Dive on your phone

  1. Open Garmin Dive, then You → Dive Logs.
  2. Open the dive you want to bring across and tap the three-dot menu.
  3. Choose Export Dive as FIT File. Save the file to your phone, or send it to inDepth if it appears among the available apps.

This is Garmin Dive's file export, separate from sharing an activity link. See Garmin's dive export instructions.

From Garmin Connect in a browser

  1. Sign in to Garmin Connect in a browser and open Activities → All Activities.
  2. Open the activity you want, then select the settings gear.
  3. Choose Export File (called Export Original in some versions). Keep the downloaded FIT file. Don't choose the CSV summary or GPX export.
  4. If you downloaded it on a computer, move the file to your phone through iCloud Drive, Google Drive, AirDrop, or an email attachment. Download a local copy before importing.

Use this route for a Garmin Pool Apnea activity or an Apnea CWT activity that has synced to Garmin Connect, too. If the phone browser hides the export controls, request the desktop website or use a computer. See Garmin's export instructions.

Downloaded a .zip? Extract it first and use the .fit file inside. On iPhone, tap the ZIP in Files and open the folder it creates. On Android, use your file manager's Extract option. inDepth doesn't import ZIP archives. Apple also explains how to open ZIP files.

2. On iPhone: share the file

  1. Install inDepth Apnea Sync and open it once. The app icon may be labeled inDepth Apnea.
  2. Open Files and find the downloaded .fit file, often in Downloads or iCloud Drive.
  3. Touch and hold the file, then tap Share. If Files offers a choice between collaboration and sending, choose Send Copy.
  4. Choose inDepth Apnea Sync (or inDepth Apnea) in the app row. Swipe along the row and tap More if you don't see it right away.
  5. inDepth opens an Import FIT file preview. Check the session details, tap Import, and read the result.

Share one FIT file at a time this way. If inDepth doesn't appear, save the file locally and use the in-app file picker. Apple's Files sharing guide shows where to find Share.

2. On Android: open the file

  1. Install inDepth Apnea Sync and open it once.
  2. Save the exported .fit file to your phone, then find it in your file manager.
  3. Tap the file or use its Open with option, then choose inDepth Apnea Sync (or inDepth Apnea). File managers use different names for this menu.
  4. Review the Import FIT file preview and tap Import.

If the Share menu doesn't list inDepth, use Open with instead. Android file sharing directly into inDepth isn't supported yet. If your file manager won't offer Open with either, use the file picker below.

Another way: choose the file inside inDepth

This works on both iPhone and Android, even when the phone's share or open menu can't find the app.

  1. Open Settings → Your data → Import Garmin FIT in inDepth.
  2. Browse to the saved .fit file and select it.
  3. The selected file imports directly and inDepth shows the result. This route doesn't show the separate preview used when opening a file from another app.

3. Find your sessions

Open Log and choose Pool or Depth for deep dives. Imports keep their original dates, so an older session may be farther down the list. Clear any filters if you can't find it. Tap a session to review the dives or reps.

If the result says already in inDepth, the app found matching session data and skipped it. It doesn't overwrite that session. Different recordings with the same start time can be kept as separate entries. Importing a file and later syncing that session from an inDepth watch app can also leave two entries. After a backup restore or cloud sync to a new device, reimporting a file previously kept as a separate entry may create another copy.

Imports can only include what the export recorded. Missing heart-rate readings stay missing, and some Garmin Dive details aren't included in the FIT export. Apnea CWT's website-only session titles don't come across; you can rename the session in inDepth.

If something doesn't work

  • No FIT files: check the extension and extract any ZIP first.
  • Couldn't open FIT file: download a fresh local copy and try the in-app picker.
  • Unsupported file or discipline: check the supported sources above. A FIT file from a different activity may not contain usable dive data.
  • Still stuck? Open Settings → Help & troubleshooting → Send feedback and describe the export source and error.

The Bring your dive history card in Settings → Your gear links here. Tap Got it to dismiss it. You can review the same information anytime from Settings → Help & troubleshooting → Import existing dive logs.
